About Mike Harmon

Mike Harmon — former Kentucky State Representative and former Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts. 

 Mike Harmon proudly served as Kentucky’s Auditor of Public Accounts, first elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019. With a focus on transparency, integrity, and fiscal responsibility, Mike lead the charge in holding government entities accountable and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.

Before becoming Auditor, Mike represented the 54th District in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2003 to 2015. Throughout his time in public service, he has earned a reputation for principled leadership, advocating for limited government and strong financial oversight.

A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Math, Statistics, and Theater, Mike brings both analytical insight and a down-to-earth approach to his work. Under his leadership, the Auditor’s Office conducted impactful audits that have exposed waste, fraud, and abuse—helping to make Kentucky government more efficient and accountable.

Beyond his official duties, Mike is active in his local church and community and is known for his approachable style and dedication to public service. He remains committed to his fellow Kentuckians by promoting a government and community that seeks to serve the people of Kentucky.

  After leaving the Auditor's Office, Mike took time to reflect on his career of public service up until that time. This book, Papaw's POV, reflects how richly blessed Mike Harmon has been throughout his life—filled with stories of joy and sadness, victories and defeats. Through it all, he has strived to live by one guiding principle, borrowed from Galaxy Quest:
"Never give up. Never surrender."

Meet the Family Behind the Man


 Mike has been incredibly blessed to be married to his sweetheart, Lynn—affectionately known as "Peaches" to their grandchildren—for over 36 years. Together, they have two wonderful daughters, Lizzie and Tori, a great son-in-law, Mah, and two amazing grandsons, Aiden and Hamoody, who lovingly call him PaPaw.
